A QUIZ FOR RECORD STORE DAY (QUIZ #4)

It’s two years since I’ve posted a cover art quiz here at Vinyl Connection.

What with the ongoing ‘Pick the artist’ game at 1001albumsin10years (the dedicated Geoff presiding) and the fun sporcle links hosted by Aphoristic Album Reviews (keeping the antipodean flag flying) no-one could say that the old musical grey matter has been un-ruffled by rock puzzles.

But the particular form favoured by this blog has been absent these twenty-four months, a deficiency hereby remedied.

Below are fourteen album covers (CD sized) resting on a 12″ LP.

Your mission, should you decided to accept it, is to identify as many as you can, by fair means or foul.

Please don’t submit answers, simply record your score out of 15 in the Comments, along with the bribe you are offering.

Look a bit difficult? Here are the release years for each album in the picture.

1965

1966

1968

1970 (x 2)

1971 (x 2)

1972

1975

1977

1987

1991

1992

1998

2013

With so many on top of it, the underlying LP is rather hard to glimpse, so here is a further hint:

It is from the same year as the album on the bottom right.

REMEMBER: Please don’t enter answers in the Comments, just your score/15.

I’ll publish the full set of artists/albums in a few days. Have fun!

ANSWERS: Are now in the Comments section. So if you want to have a go, please do (but don’t read the Comments first!).

        1. I do indeed. Happens all the time these days (😞). We actually studied the ‘t of t’ thing in second year psych. There were techniques to be used, such as feeling for the sound of the word. If only EC was there to help you.

  2. 11 for me. Very curious about the 12″ LP in the background, as there’s very little to be seen here.

Also, hooray for the return of your album cover quizzes. They’ve been sorely missed.

    1. Yeah, it’s pretty tough Rich. Past versions have had 12 on top, rather than today’s 14. More obscured, though not an obscure album!

      1. When I was in high school, as my parents had picked up CD versions of favorite albums, and put the turntable into storage (kung-fu fights in the family room with my sister could have had something to do with that) I raided their albums and hung them on my bedroom wall.

The ‘Cover Art’ posts at VC began with me rotating pairs of albums through two 12″ picture frames on the family room wall.

    1. Nice one. I think that partial recognition is quite common with these quizzes.
(Certainly 9 is probably nine more than I’d score on the equivalent metal cover quiz!)

… I got 10 I know for sure and 2 I recognise the art for, but I have absolutely no idea what or who they are. So I’ll take my ten and have a wee seat.

  15. I reckon I can name band/artist and album title of 5. I recognised the artist for one more and there’s a cover I know I’ve seen before but can’t remember. After that I’m completely stumped. Not great for a fellow blogger with a long listening history but I plead extenuating circumstances – I don’t collect vinyl and I never did pay much attention to the covers on the whole. And that’s without the benefit of any research.

Wonderful to see the return of the album cover quiz Bruce, I’d be thrilled to see it become a regular series.
I like the decade idea too. Theoretically, 90s should be my preference, but it was a weakness for me on this quiz!

        1. My results from this quiz however, suggest that I should say 80’s or 10’s, having scored “100%” in those decades; but that might be misleading given the sample size involved there….

Why not a quiz on each decade, one a week? They’re very fun!
