Like The Flock album in an early ‘vertical’ post, I had no idea that The Peddlers was a gatefold sleeve; my copy is the bottom panel only. And I have to confess that I acquired The Sweet double LP just for this post. Saw it, bought it. That’s how it works, right?
Of course there are lots more covers in this style, including records by Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John and that guy who played guitar in Humble Pie, but we can’t keep going forever, can we?

I was just listening to John Mayall (One of your recommendations I think. Empty Rooms) today, so I was curious about Keef seeing as he played with Mayall.

I have an old JM double, fold out. It was a chronology at the time ‘Back To the Roots’. Hartley was in his band at one time. Yeah that Mayall I was listening to today was real nice. I like that band.

‘Back to the Roots’ is fabulous. A fantastic collection. And as you say, the artwork is lovely and informative too.

It is a good one and will be up one day for a take. So much good music on it. A young CB was pretty lucky to stumble onto this stuff. Amazing what you retain from hours of listening to these records. I remember Hartley dressed up in his Indian gear in the booklet. Been years since I heard his name.

“Probably” (the last). Ha! Chilling memories of first seeing that Queen cover when I was quite the young, impressionable lad. Weird.

Yeah, have to agree. You know it’s modeled after another poster like this (or paperback novel cover I think) that came out a while before this record, even. I researched that once because I had a weird dream that associated me back to that album cover.

Yes it’s an homage to an actual cover of a book. No, that weird dream post came and went. Can’t remember how or where, like any other dream, or most.

Not only the cover looks great! “Halfbreed” is really good! This album was, for me, in 1969 when it was released, a high-mark of British Blues.

I think I’d only seen News of the World as a CD – so it was a nice surprise seeing it as a vertical LP!

Visually, the first three covers are excellent. And I second hotfox’s praise for Halfbreed. It was a favourite at the youth club I went to back in the day.

I’ve got to go with the Keef Hartley cover too. And the music, which I’d forgotten about, but must be good as Z just told me to turn Leavin’ Trunk down. Also, I’m enjoying the sensation of the drums coming from a bloke on the window ledge, singing from someone hiding behind the TV and the left channel guitar bouncing off the side wall. (The speakers have been pushed out of the way of tradies fitting a new heater and the sound stage is really askew. And that’s the truth, officer).
