The album cover quiz posted a few weeks ago seemed to be enjoyed by many. In fact, a series of ‘Decade’ themed quizzes was proposed.
Here is the first: THE EIGHTIES
Below are fourteen album covers (CD sized) resting on a 12″ LP. All were released between 1980 and 1989.
The task is to identify as many as you can, by fair means or foul.
Please don’t submit answers, simply record your score out of 15 in the Comments, along with your preferred prize: Bullion or Bouillabaisse.
With so many on top of it, the underlying LP is rather hard to glimpse, so here is a hint: It is from the final year of the decade.
REMEMBER:
Please don’t enter answers in the Comments, just your score/15.
[Answers are now in the comments section, below. So if you have a crack at the quiz, you can find your score!]
I think I got…four.

Understood. I’ll try to throw a morsel towards the metal monsters in the 70s quiz!

I believe an Aussie band or 2 may fit that heavier mold nicely.

One, but only because I remember it from your review during your sponsored community series. I can read the two band names — is that third one a band name too? — but no idea on the albums names that go along. This might have been the perfect quiz to get squarely at “divergence” (at least with regard to me). (smiley face)
((Oh wait, now I think I recognize the little bit of cursive writing on white there in the middle. Still miss him, if so…))

Me too.
Divergence. You may have put our finger on the problem with a quiz like this. How many covers would be needed to cover the range of tastes and interests of the audience? I thought it was really broad – that was the goal – but can see that there are huge omissions. And some I thought too easy that are utterly unknown to others. Then, of course, there is the approach one takes: instant ‘snap!’ response or careful research.
Maybe I won’t commit to too many decade-quizzes just yet.

Now that you’ve provided answers, might I play again? If so, I think my score might double(!!) from 1.5/15 to 3/15… ;-]

Sure! Play as often as you like.
Which decade next?

With your permission granted, I did play again with the cheat sheet, and yep, an (honest) recognition total of “3.” Doubled!! Woohoo!
I’ll play (and fail) at any decade you put up, but only 70s and 60s would offer me much hope of counting beyond one hand methinks.

As I identify (musically, perhaps sartorially) with the 70s, I’ll save that for the grand finale! Reckon I might get the 00s out of the way next, meaning that you might well be able to keep one hand in your pocket. (grin)

I refuse to report my score, joining with the mob of people taking the Fifth lately. and I really do have an alibi, wasn’t around that decade. But I’ll look forward to finding out on Friday. 🙂

All good.
If it goes as per script (though really, what does?) there should be a 60s, 70s, 90s, and 00s to come. Were you around for any of those? 😉

I seem to remember the ’60’s & ’70’s, just got busy and skipped the ’80’s. It was wrenching to come back, and find I’d missed Wham!, Bon Jovi, Flock of Seagulls, all that mascara, and endless Van Halen guitar solos. (I know, there was a LOT of great music that decade, I love Annie Lennox’s voice, and I would have liked to have seen John Lee Hooker, etc.) These are fun challenges you’re concocting, some covers I’m positive I’ve never seen, will check back on Friday 🙂

Sad omissions indeed. Myself, I missed hair metal, possibly due to the 80s being the decade where I started missing hair.

I don’t look them up on line or in our collection. My husband will look them up in our collection if he can’t remember a name/title.
I just try look around, count the ones I know first (if there are any)then concentrate on the one’s left, till I give up.

Well Marty, the data is suggesting that this one was too obscure. First attempt at a one-decade cover quiz and maybe didn’t get the balance between popular and less well-known quite right.

Darn: I should have recognized; Flying Lizards and Tangering.
Also got to admit a miss: NEIL YOUNG – so im down to 7.
Confused it with this

Well, I joined Danica in tallying a modest score of zero. Is there ANYONE who could identify that little corner of Steel Wheels bottom right? If so, *wow*!

Nope. No-one did. As mentioned previously, this one was too hard. In fact, I’m doubting the wisdom of the ‘decade’ approach. We’ll see.

That actually is around the mean score. Mean here meaning average, though not average in the mediocre sense but rather mathematical. Indeed, it could be argued that the score places you in the elite of quiz respondents.
