This excellent LP from female quartet Beaches has appeared in these pages before. In fact, it was one of Vinyl Connection’s more gushing reviews. Playing it today, I was again mightily impressed with this excellent debut.

Sydney’s Sunnyboys were also on the end of a positive review, as part of the “Rockin’ All Over The World” series. You can read the article here. Like the (yellow vinyl) Hoodoo Gurus debut featured in the previous post, this is an outstanding debut album, and lovely summer blue vinyl as well.

So, three from three for acts that have appeared on this stage before. This live recording of the reformed Velvet Underground got the full treatment in a post entitled “Blue Velvets“. Readers made some interesting comments on the music, while the vinyl was widely considered delicious. Hard to argue.

There’s something hypnotic about that She Beats cover…the mix of color, the way She Beats, with its thinner font, is almost a reflection of Beaches above it…I was drawn to it in your original review and am drawn to it again now. A quick consultation with Professor Google informed that the artwork is by none other than band member Gillian Tucker.

I find it interesting that a record label indulged a new act with a colored vinyl disk. It seems like something reserved for artists who have already proven their worth/appeal. I just took a nice stroll down memory lane with your Blue Velvet post. I Haven’t listened to VU in years. Looking forward to that now.

I remember buying that Beaches album after your last review and it is still as good as it was then. Blue is a good color, colored vinyl is an odd thing though enticing and still a novelty on some level, what about the clear or translucent though.

Funny you should mention clear vinyl. I’ve been thinking about a monochrome series that includes clear, greys, etc. Then there is splatter vinyl…
